Department Of Costume Design and Fashion

Costume Design and Fashion Department was established in the year 2004 as a self financing course. Rotary club of Tirupur, Gandhinagar, donated machineries and equipments worth Rs.10 lakhs for the Costume Design and Fashion lab on 25/08/2004. And it became a full fledged Government Aided Programme in 2006 affiliated to Bharathair University, Coimbatore. The Department offers Under Graduate Programme in Costume Design and Fashion. The intake is fifty students each year. The department is proud that this is the only Government College offering this course in Tamil Nadu.There are four dedicated Faculty members in the department actively engaged in bringing up the students by enlightening them with recent advances in the field of Textiles and Fashion. To achieve its goals, the department enjoys full fledged lab facilities – Garment Construction Lab, Processing Lab and CAD Lab.The Department aims at producing successful Designers, Merchandisers, Quality Controllers, Pattern Makers, Supervisors and Entrepreneurs related to textile and hosiery industry. It undertakes various activities that cater to the above needs of the students. The students are provided intensive exposure to industries through internship training also.

Department has a well functioning department Library with 129 books and it is added every year. This caters to the insights of the student’s knowledge. It has also subscribed four reputed peer reviewed bimonthly and monthly journals which helps the students to know the latest trends and updates in the industry.Most of the students after their completion of their undergraduate course are placed in jobs based of their interest, credit, workmanship and self motivation, as it is a highly creative and Entrepreneurial Course. The rest go in for higher studies.

The Department has excellent academic achievements. Ever since its inception, it has scaled greater heights rendering valuable service to the student community. M.Muhzina (2011 – 2014) received Kamarajar Memorial Award, from Bharathair University for securing highest per cent among the third year undergraduate students of this college. This adds an academic gold rose brooch to the Department. Faculty members in the department are actively engaged in motivating and kindling their knowledge through active participation in Conferences and in Research Publications in Conferences and in Journals. Two faculty members are engaged in guiding Ph.D Scholars. Added to their credit, they are also authors for Chapters in Books.
