Welcome to Chikkanna Govt. Arts College
PREAMBLE
The memorable celebrities Mr. S. Ramasamy and K. N. Palanisamy with their team members initiated the establishment work for the college in July 1966. In continuance of this, “Chikkanna Chettiar Trust” donated Rupees 5,00,000/-. To the remembrance of this charity, the college was named as Chikkanna Government Arts College. The college started its academic programme initially at the Devangapuram Co-operative society building in the year 1966 with the aim of providing quality education, facilitating the learners from the downtrodden sections of society and especially concentrating the first-generation learners.
The College campus is strategically situated on the scenic and sprawling land of the dollar City, Tirupur, with the 40 acres of serene land in the heart of the Tirupur City. The college runs 14 academic departments offering 15 UG level Programmes (English and Tamil Medium), 11 PG level Programmes with an exclusive library and Laboratory facilities. It also acts as a research centre for 11 M.Phil. and 11 Ph.D. Programmes under Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The College is running B.Sc. (Computer Science) programmes in the Second Shift. It has a well-equipped class rooms, sufficient laboratories and a vast playground offering ample scope for students. Faculties of national repute, energetic student community, excellent technical & supporting staff and effective Administration have all contributed to the reputation of the College. The members of faculty are 85 out of whom 55 are Ph.D. Degree holders and others are pursuing Part-time Ph.D. programmes in their respective disciplines. It is a self-contained campus with nearly 3400 students and 100 administrative & supporting staff.
